Read Aloud/Read Along
Ghost Canoe -

Ghost Canoe - Not sure what page they read to with sub yesterday but probably finished chapter 6 and ready to start chapter 7 (Kindle ebook in window behind this one)
Continue to focus on the characterization of the protagonist Nathan MacAllister
At the end of the chapter students write a paragraph in which they describe the development of Nathan’s character in chapter 7. Their description must focus on the personality of Nathan and how his words and actions in this chapter change the reader’s view of this character. Students must include actual details from the story to support their statement about Nathan’s personality as shown in chapter 7. Type paragraph in online journal. Title your online journal entry “character development”

Finish and polish drawings -
Create 2 hand-drawings of the ghost canoe on a piece of blank 8.5x11 computer printer paper. One drawing shows the canoe from Nathan’s point of view on the ground and the second drawing shows the canoe from Nathan’s point of view when he climbed up to the canoe. Detail is required - start with lead pencil and add colored pencil highlights.

Edit/revise schoology.com discussion forum post on Ghost Canoe background readings  for completeness, clarity, careless errors, spelling, etc.

Period 3
Online study hall - all students should be working on Apex completion for English, Math, History and Science.

Period 4

We are starting chapter 25 page 261.

We read and stop to discuss various points about the author’s technique - imagery, foreshadowing, characterization and so forth.
The kids have started a fictional narrative that is also set on south whidbey and which should include some of the people we have met on our field trips as starting points for their creative efforts.
The students can help find the kindle ebook and it should open up at the right part

We go on 4 hour field trips around the southend every Tuesday.
On Thursday we compile our field notes into another online document in Google Apps called Expeditionary Learning.
Most of the kids still need to add a 300 word post to this doc from both a Langley business/building interview and a similar activity at Bayview Corner. They also need to a 300 word entry on our most recent outing to Maxwelton Beach this past Tuesday.

They can also work on the ghost canoe drawings started yesterday.
